LISTEN: Lana Del Rey - "West Coast"

"Down on the West Coast, they got a sayin', if you're not drinkin', then you're not playin'"

The new single, "West Coast"

Lana Del Rey gave BBC's Radio 1 the permission to play her new single, "West Coast" for the first time. DJ Fearne Cottono described it as "quite beautiful" and who am I to say that she's wrong?

This is definitely a little different for Lana, a small (perhaps uncertain) step ahead. It doesn't really represent an artistic evolution but this could be interpreted as Lana staying true to herself. Her biggest hit, after all, was a remix of one of her songs, so it's good to see she didn't go down that route for her comeback. That would have been bizarre.

The music changes almost dramatically right before the chorus, it slows down and turns the song into a classic Lana Del Rey track, taking us back to "Summertime Sadness" and "Gods And Monsters".

Listen to the track below and see what you make of it!

Lana Del Rey Announces New Single: "West Coast"

Lana Del Rey has been teasing her new album, "Ultraviolence" (slated for a release later this year) for months now, and she has finally confirmed that the lead single is called "West Coast".

The announcement came after a website wrongly assumed that a leaked track called "Meet Me In The Pale Moonlight" had been recorded for the new album, which Lana quickly denied herself on Twitter:

Lana Del Rey, real name Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, rose to fame with her "Born to Die" album (2012), and singles such as "Video Games", "Born To Die" and "Summertime Sadness".

The album was an unexpected success, and it was re-released months later. "Born To Die - The Paradise Edition" was launched by "Ride", a nostalgic-sounding soul-pop ballad. The re-release helped the album sell over five million copies Worldwide.
