Billboard Music Awards Finalists Announced

The BMAs, live on ABC on May the 18th

The Billboard Music Awards started in 1989 and were held in December every year until 2006. The 2007 ceremony was canceled for various reasons, and plans to bring it back in 2008 fell through. The BMAs came back in May 2011.

Unlike other awards, the Billboard Music Awards are based on chart success: number of downloads, total sales and total airplay. Past award winners include Madonna, Michael Jackson, the Spice Girls, Elton John, Mariah Carey and Prince.

This year's finalists were announced earlier today, and the ceremony, which will air live on May the 18th, will honour the year's most successful acts in 40 different categories.

Bizarrely, Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die" is up for "Top Rock Album" together with Lorde's "Pure Heroine" and others. I must have grown up with the wrong concept of rock music. But this nomination will definitely please wild child Lana.

Other strange inclusions? "Safe And Sound" by Capital Cities and Lorde's "Royals" are up for "Top Rock Song". Have you people heard these tracks? I'm sure there's some criteria behind Billboard's decisions, but I fail to understand it. Capital Cities and Lorde are also nominated for "Top Rock Artist".

Pure Heroine 

"Top Christian Album" and "Top Christian Song" will definitely be the most talked-about awards of the night. Not.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that Eminem, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé were nominated in all 40 categories, but, in reality, Imagine Dragons and Lorde lead with 12 categories each.

Competition is tough though; Eminem, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake will have to fight it out for "Top Male Artist", while "Top Female Artist" is filled with extremely successful ladies: Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lorde.

Lady Gaga is up for three awards: "Top Dance/Electronic Artist", "Top Dance/Electronic Album" (ARTPOP) and "Top Dance/Electronic Song" (Applause).

Do What U Want, Ladies!

Two of pop music's finest exponents performed together on stage last night.

Lady Gaga appeared on the finale of The Voice US to perform her latest hit single, 'Do What U Want', and while the album version features R&B legend R.Kelly, he wasn't the one who joined the Lady on stage.

In-house coach Christina Aguilera made a special appearance. The performance included a giant, floating seashell, champagne, dancers and shoulder pads. The two divas brought the house down. It felt like watching a '70s music show as the two ladies stunned with their shimmering outfits and blonde wigs hair.

It was a fantastic moment. The pair had great chemistry and their voices sounded wonderful together. They didn't try to out-sing each other and there were no major stunts during the performance; it was all about the music and the duo's powerful vocals.

The song, lyrically speaking, suits both parties just as well. Both popstars have had their fair share of criticism, they are both controversial figures and much has been said about their egos, bodies and private lives.

The press had nothing but praise for the epic performance, just like Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera had nothing but wonderful words to say about each other. Lady Gaga said that The Voice approached her to perform and she said she’d do it as long as Christina would do it with her. And Christina added that Lady Gaga is very real and one of the most down to Earth people in the business.

Remember that silly feud people used to talk about? Exactly, we don't either.

Lady Gaga è stata ospite della finale di The Voice America per cantare il suo ultimo singolo, 'Do What U Want', e mentre la versione contenuta sull'album, 'ARTPOP', è cantata in coppia con la leggenda dell'R&B, R.Kelly, non c'era lui sul palco con la Lady ieri sera.

Christina Aguilera, uno dei giudici del programma, ha fatto un'apparizione speciale. La performance includeva un'enorme conchiglia fluttuante, champagne, ballerini e grosse spalline. Le due dive hanno meravigliato tutti. E' stato un po' come guardare un programma musicale degli anni 70, con abiti luccicanti e parrucche chiome bionde.

E' stato un momento fantastico. Le due hanno dimostrato una grande complicità e le loro voci si sono mescolate alla perfezione. Non hanno cercato di strafare e nemmeno di scioccare: la performance si è incentrata sulla musica e sulla potenza delle due voci.

La canzone, per quanto riguarda il testo, si adatta perfettamente a tutte e due le popstar. Entrambe hanno ricevuto molte critiche negli anni, sono due figure controverse e molto è stato detto sulle loro personalità, i loro ego, i loro corpi e le loro vite private.

La stampa ha solo avuto ottime parole sulla performance, cosi come Lady Gaga e Christina Aguilera non hanno fatto altro che farsi i complimenti a vicenda. Lady Gaga ha ammesso che avrebbe accettato l'invito di The Voice solo se Christina Aguilera avesse deciso di collaborare con lei. E Christina, a sua volta, ha parlato di Gaga come di una delle persone più vere e con i piedi per terra dell'industria musicale.

Ricordate quella sciocca faida di cui si parlava? No? Nemmeno noi.

Lady Gaga acudió a la final de La Voz US para cantar su último single, 'Do What U Want' y, aunque en la versión del álbum canta con la leyenda del R&B R. Kelly, no fue él quien compartió escenario con Lady Gaga ayer.

La coach del programa, Christina Aguilera, fue la elegida para el dueto. La actuación incluyó una gigante concha de mar flotante, champagne, bailarines y hombreras. Las dos divas hicieron enloquecer a todos. Fue casi como ver un programa de los años 70 gracias a los vestidos brillantes que las dos llevaban y a su pelo (o pelucas) rubio.

Fue un momento fantástico. Se notaba que había buena química entre las dos cantantes y sus voces sonaron muy bien juntas. Ninguna de las dos intentó cantar más o mejor que la otra y la actuación fue muy sencilla, nada de cosas raras, se basó todo en la música y en sus potentes voces.

La letra de la canción es muy apropiada para las dos. Tanto Lady Gaga como Christina han sido muy criticadas, las dos han sido y siguen siendo personajes muy controvertidos y se ha hablado mucho de sus egos, cuerpos y vidas privadas.

Los medios de comunicación no han podido hacer más que alabar la actuación, y las dos cantantes han dicho sólo cosas buenas la una de la otra. Lady Gaga dijo que se le pidió que cantase en el programa y ella dijo que aceptaría sólo si Christina quería cantar con ella. ¿Y qué dijo Christina? Que Lady Gaga es una de las personas que más tiene los pies en la tierra en el panorama musical.

¿Os acordáis de la rivalidad que rodeaba a las dos cantantes hace un tiempo? Pues eso, nosotros tampoco.

En 2013 muchos artistas han regresado con nueva música, y algunos de ellos nos han regalado canciones fantásticas.

Visto que el año está terminando (¡sólo quedan 21 días para que llegue 2014!), hemos decidido hacer una lista con el Top10 de los que, en nuestra opinión, han sido los mejores singles de los últimos 12 meses. ¿No es ese el motivo principal por el que el fin de año es tan importante? ¿Para que los fans de la música puedan hacer sus listas?

¿Ha sido difícil? Sí, pero como todas las cosas importantes en la vida, hemos tenido que hacerlo. 10 reasons why Lady Gaga's ARTPOP is a Godsend.

ARTPOP + Barcelona = an explosion of colours.

After two and a half years, the Goddess of Pop is back! Now is the title of Goddess of Pop ok? We wouldn't want to infuriate those who worship the Queen or the Princess.

'ARTPOP' has finally hit the shops this week, and it's a force to be reckoned with. It punches your ears repeatedly with its power, it makes you want to gasp for air, and it doesn't let you relax until track #13, 'Dope', a very personal ballad that changes the mood of the record entirely for almost 4 minutes.

So, there's a number of reasons why 'ARTPOP' is a fantastic album, let's check them out!

1) The cover of the album became iconic 5 minutes after it was revealed to the world. It doesn't feature Lady Gaga herself but a sculpture by American artist Jeff Koons. Remember his Michael Jackson statue and his photographs with his then wife, porn actress Cicciolina? PS: The foil edition is gorgeous.

2)  'Gypsy'. Keep an ear out for this song, we would be outraged if it didn't end up becoming a single! This is one of the many highlights on the album, who else could write a song about being constantly on the road and make it be so emotional? Anyone who doesn't get goosebumps is probably heartless.

3) "URanus... don't you know my ass is famous?!"

4) 'Venus'. The song. Lady Gaga produced this all by herself. In her own words: "I told all of my producers to get their big dicks out of the room. I said: this one must be produced by a vagina".

5) The way she uses her voice on this record is outstanding. She goes from sounding extremely sensual on songs like 'Sexxx Dreams' and 'ARTPOP', to sounding possessed on some others ("Don't you know my ass is famous", from 'Venus', which we mentioned before, is a clear example of this), to extremely frustrated on what must be the most heartfelt song on the album, 'Dope', where she talks about her past addiction to drugs and alcohol.

6) The intro to 'Donatella' will instantly make you feel divine. Even if you're not blonde, skinny, rich, or a little bit of a bitch. Thankfully it is Gaga singing this and not Donatella Versace or we would still be trying to figure out what the song is about.

7) The album is very cohesive. Its production may be a little noisy at points but this is Lady Gaga's style. Have you ever heard 'Born This Way'?

8) "WHEN I LAY IN BED I TOUCH MYSELF AND I THINKA YOU".

9) It contains one of the catchiest choruses Lady Gaga has created so far. Just give 'MANiCURE' a listen and tell us if you managed not to repeat its infectious chorus over and over again in your head.

10) It gave us that thing that we love back: Lady Gaga.

Dopo due anni e mezzo, la Dea del Pop è tornata! Ora, il titolo di Dea del Pop è accettabile? Non vorremmo far infuriare coloro que adorano la Regina o la Principessa.

'ARTPOP' è finalmente arrivato nei negozi questa settimana, ed è una forza da non sottovalutare. Ti prende a pugni le orecchie ripetutamente con la sua potenza, ti fa boccheggiare, e non ti concede un momento di relax fino alla canzone numero 13, 'Dope', un lento molto personale che cambia l'umore dell'album completamente per quasi 4 minuti.

Dunque, 'ARTPOP' è un album fantastico, e i motivi sono vari, vediamo un po'!

1) La copertina dell'album è diventata iconica 5 minuti dopo essere stata rivelata al mondo. Non compare la vera Lady Gaga in copertina ma una scultura creata dall'artista americano Jeff Koons. Ricordate la sua statua di Michael Jackson e le foto con sua moglie, la pornostar Cicciolina?

2) 'Gypsy'. Prestate attenzione a questa canzone, sarebbe un oltraggio non farla diventare un singolo! E' uno dei tanti bei momenti del disco, chi altro potrebbe scrivere una canzone sullo stare perennemente in tour e renderla emozionante? Se non sentite nulla ascoltando questa canzone probabilmente non avete un cuore.

3) "URanus... don't you know my ass is famous?!".

4) 'Venus'. La canzone. Prodotta interamente da Lady Gaga. Come lei ha spiegato: "Dissi a tutti i miei produttori con i loro grossi cazzi di uscire dalla stanza. Dissi: questa canzone dev'essere prodotta da una vagina".

5) Il modo in cui utilizza la sua voce su questo disco è eccezionale. Va da un suono estremamente sensuale durante canzoni come 'Sexxx Dreams' e 'ARTPOP', ad uno quasi indemoniato ("Don't you know my ass is famous?", da 'Venus', ne è un chiaro esempio), passando poi per un tono altamente frustrato su quella che deve essere la canzone più profonda dell'album, 'Dope', nella quale parla della sua dipendenza da droghe e alcol.

6) L'intro di 'Donatella' vi farà sentire divini all'istante. Anche se non siete biondi, magri, ricchi e un po' stronzi. Fortunatamente è Lady Gaga a cantare, e non Donatella Versace, altrimenti staremmo ancora a chiederci di cosa tratti la canzone.

7) L'album è coesivo. La produzione può essere, a volte, leggermente rumorosa ma questo è lo stile di Lady Gaga. Avete mai ascoltato 'Born This Way'?

8) "WHEN I LAY IN BED I TOUCH MYSELF AND I THINKA YOU".

9) Contiene uno dei ritornelli più orecchiabili che Lady Gaga abbia mai creato. Ascoltate "MANiCURE" e poi diteci che siete riusciti a non ripeterne il ritornello nella vostra testa. 

10) Ci ha ridato quella cosa che amiamo: Lady Gaga.

Tras dos años y medio, ¡la Diosa del Pop ha vuelto! ¿Podéis aceptar el título de "Diosa del Pop"? No quisieramos enfadar a los que adoran a la Reina y a la Princesa.

'ARTPOP' ha llegado finalmente a las tiendas esta semana, y es una fuerza a la que tener en cuenta. Te perfora los oídos repetidamente con su fuerza, hace que quieras coger aire y no deja que te relajes hasta que llega la canción número 13, 'Dope', una balada muy personal que cambia el tono del disco por completo durante casi 4 minutos.

Hay varias razones por las que 'ARTPOP' es un álbum fantástico, ¡mencionémoslas!

1) La portada del disco se volvió icónica 5 minutos después de que la viese el mundo. En ella no aparece la verdadera Lady Gaga pero sí una escultura realizada por el artista americano Jeff Koons. ¿Recordáis su estatua de Michael Jackson y sus fotografías junto a su esposa de por aquel entonces, la actriz porno Cicciolina?

2) 'Gypsy'. Estad muy pendientes a esta canción, ¡estaríamos muy indignados si no terminase por ser uno de los singles! Este es uno de los temas a destacar del álbum, ¿qué otro artista podría escribir una canción sobre el estar siempre de gira de forma tan emocionante? A quien no se le ponga la piel de gallina escuchando esta canción no tiene corazón.

3) "URanus... don't you know my ass is famous?!"

4) 'Venus'. La canción. Lady Gaga la produjo toda sola. En sus mismas palabras: "Dije a todos los productores que sacasen sus grandes penes del estudio. Esta tenía que ser producida enteramente por una mujer".

5) La forma en la que usa su voz en este disco es increíble. Pasa de sonar extremadamente sensual en canciones como 'Sexxx Dreams' y 'ARTPOP', a sonar poseída en otras ("Don't you know my ass is famous?!", en 'Venus', que acabamos de mencionar, es uno de los claros ejemplos de esto), a sonar muy frustrada en la que debe ser la canción más sentida del álbum, 'Dope', done habla de su ya superada adicción a las drogas y al alcohol.

6) La introducción de 'Donatella' hará que os sintáis divinos aunque no seáis rubios, delgados, ricos, o un poco cabrones. Afortunadamente la canción la canta Gaga y no Donatella Versace (a quien está dedicada), si no todavía estaríamos aquí intentando descifrar de qué trata.

7) El álbum es muy cohesivo. Su producción puede ser bastante ruidosa en ciertos momentos pero este es el estilo de Lady Gaga. ¿Habéis escuchado 'Born This Way' alguna vez?

8) "WHEN I LAY IN BED I TOUCH MYSELF AND I THINKA YOU".

9) Contiene uno de los estribillos más pegadizos que Lady Gaga haya creado jamás. Escuchad 'MANiCURE' y después decidnos si habéis sido capaces de no repetir tan contagioso estribillo una y otra vez mentalmente.

10) Nos ha devuelto lo que tanto queremos: Lady Gaga.
