Nirvana are now part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside the likes of Kiss and Beatles manager Brian Epstein.
The group was introduced by REM frontman Michael Stipe, who said:
"Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard. They were kicking against the mainstream. They spoke the truth and a lot of people listened."

The group's existance was cut short due to Kurt Cobain's death 20 years ago, and his widow, Courtney Love, attended the ceremony. Her presence wasn't well-received, with fans booing her the moment she took to the stage to say a few words:
"You know, I have a big speech, but I'm not going to say it. I just wish Kurt was here to do this."

Courtney Love and the members of Nirvana have only recently made peace after more than 20 years of friction.
The group was joined on stage by four female singers to perform some of the band's most popular songs. Lorde sang "All Apologies", Joan Jett did "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon did "Aneurysm" and St Vincent performed "Lithium".
