Mariah To Drop New Album Out Of The Blue

Mariah covers Billboard magazine: "After waiting five years between albums, Mariah Carey finally explains the personal struggle behind her all-at-once digital release"

Oooh so the album's release wasn't being pushed back again and again, Mariah Carey and her team were just trying to create hype around the record so that it'd be big news when it ends up being released on iTunes all of a sudden!

But now that she's announced it, what's the point?

When Beyoncé did it last year (story), nobody was expecting it, and that is exactly why it was as big as it was. The fact that the album was very good helped, obviously, but when all those people bought it (the album sold 617,000 copies in three days) they didn't know what the music would sound like. They bought it purely out of hype.

Now, with Mariah, it's a matter of when, not if. It isn't quite the same.

We'll see if the all-at-once iTunes release helps Mariah achieve good sales despite the terrible chart performance of all the 'lead' singles from the new album. At the very least, it should get people talking again, since for a couple of days iTunes will turn into MariahTunes and it will be impossible to avoid the album.

Earlier this month I told you that the album would be released on May the 6th (story), but now it's all up in the air... unless that is the date for the sudden release?

Mariah Carey's New Album Exists

"It's coming out! Oh no, it isn't."

"Now it really is! Wait, it's been delayed again."

After many false starts, Mariah Carey's new album seems to be coming out in early May. The album, which doesn't have a title yet, has spawned four "lead" singles, but all promotional activities ceased after "You're Mine (Eternal)" was released.

But apparently Mariah hosted an exclusive listening party at a New York City nightclub and organised a radio programmers hangout, which was a success, with radio DJs from all over the country attending to hear details of Mariah's new record.

Mariah Carey's manager Jermain Dupri tweeted:

"We had programmers from all over the country come in and kick it with MC and get a full confirmation on May 6th."

She was also spotted shooting with photographer Terry Richardson for Wonderful Magazine.

Mel B and Mariah Carey go way back.

In 2001, while Mel B was dating British actor and musician Max Beesley, he was busy on set with Mariah Carey. The movie they were filming together was blockbuster flop "Glitter".


Mel B never hid her jealous nature, and made jokes such as:

"He'll have to gargle with mouthwash after he's filmed them kissing scenes with Mariah."

The relationship ended and the movie flopped, so there was no winner in that situation.

Fast-forward to 13 years later, and Mel B and Mariah Carey's current husband, Nick Cannon have been working together on America's Got Talent for over one year, and Nick hasn't held back when he was asked on Australian radio station 2DayFM  if he thought his collegue was attractive:



Will Mariah be happy with this? Apparently, she recently told her hubby to "keep his mouth shut about former lovers".

Alright, alright, alright! This post is predictable, we know. But hey, it IS Christmas time, don't pretend you don't like at least ONE Christmas song.

Plastic Ono Band - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon and Yoko Ono created Plastic Ono Band in 1969, before The Beatles disbanded. This single was released in the US in 1971 and one year later it came out in the UK, where it reached its peak in the charts only after John's death in 1980. It is lyrically very straight-forward and heavily influenced by the years of peace activism undertaken by John and Yoko.

Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas? - Written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure (yes, THAT Midge Ure), this charity single was a ginormous hit in 1984, and by 1989 it had sold more than 11 million copies worldwide. It instantly became a classic, and it was re-recorded in 1989 and 2004. For a full list of the artists who sing on this track, click here.

Destiny's Child - 8 Days Of Christmas - For some strange reason, many popstars have felt the need to record Christmas albums over the years. Destiny's Child gave into temptation in 2001. The whole project wasn't exactly successful, but the song is fun, and we like its R&B vibe.

Lady Gaga - Christmas Tree - If you want a Christmas song that sounds somewhat innocent but is filled with sexual innuendos and metaphors, this is the one. Released in 2008 as a digital download only, the track contains lyrics such as "The only place you'll wanna be is underneath my Christmas tree". It's pure fun and it received some great reviews when it was released.

Spice Girls - Goodbye - Ginger Spice left the Spice Girls in 1998, but that didn't stop the group from releasing incredibly successful singles. This song was a #1 smash hit in multiple markets, including the UK, Italy, New Zealand and Canada. Despite the fact that the lyrics aren't exactly Christmassy (it's a beautifully-written ballad about losing a friend and understanding their decision to move on), it was released just in time to be that year's Christmas #1 and the accompanying music video features a castle, white wolves, frozen people and lots of objects falling from the roof, which gives the whole thing a very festive touch.

George Michael - December Song (I Dreamed Of Christmas) - Originally written for the Spice Girls, this song and its music video will leave you feeling nostalgic. It's Christmas through the eyes of a child. Magical.

Wham! - Last Christmas - "December Song" wasn't George Michael's first foray into the world of Christmas songs. In 1984, together with his dear friend Andrew Ridgeley, he released what went on to become one of the biggest Christmas classics ever. The song re-enters various charts around the world every year, and its music video features George and Andrew, their ''girlfriends'', a ski resort in Switzerland and lots of bad fashion and OTT hairdos. Sadly, the track has been murdered several times over the years by trashy non-entities who thought it would be cool to destroy a classic by covering it.

Bing Crosby - White Christmas - Easily the classiest Christmas song ever, "White Christmas" was released in 1942 and became the biggest-selling single ever, having sold over 50 million copies worldwide. The song, with its melancholic tone, resonated with listeners during World War II. In 2011, Lady Gaga covered the song for her holiday TV special, "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving", but sang it with an additional self-created verse. You can listen to it here.

5ive - Until The Time Is Through - A sweet little pop ballad, this song was released in time to gain airplay during the Christmas and holiday season in 1998, and the location for the music video was the same one the Spice Girls chose for their "Goodbye" video.

Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - We became familiar with this song during one of our stays in London. It is, in fact, a UK and Ireland classic, and it isn't exactly well-known abroad. It's up-lifting and festive, and how do you think we first heard about it, a long, long time ago? Thanks to the Spice Girls, of course, who covered the song during their Christmas In SpiceWorld tour in December 1999. Listen to their version here.

Lily Allen - Somewhere Only We Know - This year marked Lily Allen's comeback to music with this cover of the Keane classic. The track was chosen as the soundtrack to a Christmas advert, and it was #1 in the UK for 3 non-consecutive weeks.

Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You - Probably the Christmas classic, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is Mariah Carey's biggest hit and one of the best-selling singles of all time. If you don't hear it every year at Christmas, you probably live on another planet. Or somewhere where they don't celebrate Christmas.

E' una canzone divertente ed ottenne buone recensioni quando fu pubblicata.

Nonostante il testo non proprio dal sapore festivo (è un bellissimo lento su un amico che ci lascia e la comprensione ed accettazione dei motivi della sua scelta), la canzone fu pubblicata giusto in tempo per essere numero 1 durante la settimana di Natale, e il video che l'accompagna include un castello, lupi bianchi, gente congelata (sciolta solo dal calore dell'amore apportato dalle Spice Girls) e vari oggetti che cadono dal soffitto, dando al tutto un tocco natalizio.

George Michael - December Song (I Dreamed Of Christmas) - Questa canzone fu inizialmente scritta da George per le Spice Girls. Sia il pezzo che il video vi lasceranno con una sensazione di nostalgia addosso. E' il Natale visto attraverso gli occhi di un bambino. Magico.

Wham! - Last Christmas - "December Song" non fu il primo esperimento di George Michael con la musica natalizia. Nel 1984, pubblicó insieme al suo caro amico Andrew Ridgeley, ciò che finì con il diventare uno dei classici di natale più conosciuti di tutti i tempi. La canzone rientra in varie classifiche in giro per il mondo ogni anno, e nel video possiamo ammirare George e Andrew, le loro "ragazze", una località sciistica in Svizzera, tanta moda oscena e acconciature sopra le righe. Purtroppo, negli anni, questa canzone è stata massacrata varie volte da sconosciuti che hanno creduto opportuno riproporla a modo loro.

Bing Crosby - White Christmas - Decisamente il pezzo natalizio più di classe, "White Christmas" fu pubblicata nel 1942 e divenne il singolo di maggior successo di tutti i tempi, con oltre 50 milioni di copie vendute in giro per il globo. La canzone, con il suo tono malinconico, colpiva gli ascoltatori proprio durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Nel 2011, Lady Gaga ripropose il classico durante il suo speciale TV "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving (Un Giorno Del Ringraziamento Molto Gaga)" ma, per non smentirsi, vi aggiunse una strofa, perchè ritenne l'originale "troppo breve". 5ive - Until The Time Is Through - Questo lento dolce e carino fu pubblicato giusto in tempo per guadagnare passaggi in radio e TV durante il periodo delle feste nel 1998, e la location del video fu la stessa che le Spice Girls scelsero poco prima per "Goodbye".

Rain and music: a spiritual experience

           

It's been raining for days here in Barcelona, and we can't help but have a love/hate relationship with this kind of weather. It makes going out uncomfortable, but most importantly, who on Earth likes umbrellas? Come on now, they were clearly created to ruin a good outfit, and they never seem to be strong enough to battle against gusts of wind. Rain is also the main enemy of a good hair day.

But there's something about this weather that just makes us all warm and fuzzy inside. First of all, the rain and its noise, it's incredibly relaxing, even somewhat inspiring and thought-provoking. Check out this link and tell us if we're wrong.

Activities like reading or listening to music almost turn into spiritual experiences if, while it's raining outside, you're sitting on your sofa, next to your lamp, with a book in your hands and a nice soundtrack playing in the background. The book you're reading seems to be more interesting and the song you're listening to sounds better than usual.

Pioggia e musica: un'esperienza spirituale

Sono giorni che piove a Barcellona, e non possiamo negare di avere una relazione di amore e odio con questo clima uggioso. Rende le uscite particolarmente scomode, ma soprattutto, chi, su questo pianeta, ama gli ombrelli? Diciamoci la verità, furono creati per distruggere una buona scelta di abbigliamento, e non sono mai stati capaci di combattere contro gli improvvisi colpi di vento. La pioggia è anche il principale nemico di quelle giornate in cui non odiamo i nostri capelli.

Ma questo tempaccio ha qualcosa che ci riscalda dentro. Innanzitutto, la pioggia, il suo rumore... sono cosi rilassanti, in un certo senso anche stimolanti. Date un'occhiata a questo link e diteci se ci sbagliamo.

Passatempi come leggere o ascoltare musica diventano quasi delle esperienze spirituali quando, mentre fuori piove, si è sul proprio divano, di fianco ad una bajour, con un buon libro tra le mani e bella musica di sottofondo. Lluvia y música: una experiencia espiritual

Hace días que llueve aquí en Barcelona y no podemos evitar tener una de esas relaciones de amor/odio con este tipo de tiempo. Hace que salir sea incómodo, y lo más importante, ¿a quién le gusta los paraguas? Vamos a ver, cláramente fueron inventados para arruinar una acertada elección en cuestión de ropa y nunca parecen ser lo suficientemente resistentes para soportar fuertes rachas de viento. La lluvia también es el principal enemigo en uno de esos días en los que te despiertas con el pelo bien en orden.

Pero hay algo en este tiempo que nos hace sentir bien cálidos por dentro. Lo primero de todo es la lluvia y su sonido, es increíblemente relajante, incluso inspirador e incita a pensar. Mirad este enlace y decidnos si estamos equivocados.

Cosas como leer o escuchar música se convierten casi en una experiencia espiritual si, mientras fuera llueve, estás sentado en tu sofá, al lado de la lámpara, con un buen libro en tus manos y una buena banda sonora de fondo. El libro que estás leyendo parece ser más interesante y la canción que estás escuchando suena mejor de lo habitual.
