The Spice Girls Know How To Party

"Girls night out", an excited Melanie C tweeted

Victoria Beckham recently turned 40 (story), and she celebrated in style in Los Angeles, but her London friends threw a surprise party for her when she got back home.

The guest-list included people like Chris Martin, Guy Ritchie and Gordon Ramsay and obviously husband David Beckham, but two people stole the show: Baby Spice Emma Bunton and Sporty Spice Melanie C.

David and Victoria Beckham leaving the Arts Club

The mini Spice Girls reunion (Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell also attended) must have got the Girls really excited and in the mood for partying, because pictures of the them leaving London's Arts Club are so much fun, and they have made the headlines all around the World.

Friendship never ends, and the girls know how to have fun

Both Emma and Melanie stumbled on their way to the car when they left the party at 2AM, but still managed to look gorgeous. Jade Jones, Emma Bunton's partner was the perfect gentleman as he made sure Melanie (who, according to Emma, was the worst of the night) got to the car, then went back and did exactly the same with his lady. Watch the video below:

Victoria Beckham seemed delighted to have her Spice pals with her, she later tweeted:

"So much fun with Emma and Mel C at my party last night x vb"

She forgot to mention Geri Halliwell, who apparently was the sensible one, didn't drink a drop and drove herself home once the party was over.

Geri Halliwell, "Sober Spice"

Scary Spice Mel B was missing, probably only because she was busy working on America's Got Talent.

Despite the party finishing at 2AM, Emma Bunton was on London's Heart Breakfast around four hours later and talked about the party. Well, what she rememberd of the party! Listen below:

Victoria Beckham Turns 40, Her Ten Best Songs!

Posh, at her best

When a celebrity turns 40, it is seen as a milestone by many. Now I can't explain why, because I don't really understand it myself, but Victoria Beckham's birthday this year is receiving a strangely intense amount of attention. Magazines have dedicated their cover to the birthday girl and newspapers are giving away souvenir pullouts. One magazine created a 76 page birthday issue. Isn't that just plain bizarre?

Victoria Beckham's birthday seems to be big news
Yes, she has gone from an insecure little girl to a global superstar with the most successful girlband ever, the Spice Girls, and then managed to make a transition to the fashion World conquering the hearts and pockets of some very rich people. But does that really warrant such a reaction? It's almost amusing.

As for me ("Ha ha you'll see!"), I could never bring myself to care about Victoria's fashion career, I got to know her as a Spice Girl and became a huge fan of hers for the music she made with the rest of the Girls, the message she spread with them and her dry sense of humour, which is now buried under the façade she puts on to please the cold, heartless fashion industry.

Many of you don't know that Victoria released a solo album and a few solo singles away from the Spice Girls, before she decided that she had a passion for fashion and realised that was all she ever wanted to do.

So what way will this post celebrate her 40th birthday? By counting down the ten BEST Victoria Beckham songs (wonder if she ever listens to herself these days?). Ready? Let's go! (Click on the titles to listen)

1) "Bittersweet"

Victoria Beckham's best song is an unknown gem that was supposed to end up on her second solo album. The project was scrapped when record company Telstar failed and Victoria lost her contract. It's an electronic mid-tempo about a man who is now out of Victoria's life. She is a powerful woman who sings half-spoken verses, can perfectly live without a man in her life and has no regrets at all.

2) "Out Of Your Mind"

Victoria's biggest solo hit as a solo artist was released in the summer of 2000, when garage music reached its commercial peak. The Truesteppers and Dane Bowers had previously had a hit with "Buggin'" and, lyrically, "Out Of Your Mind" is an answer to that song. Girl Power aplenty, vocoder effects like there's no tomorrow and a dance routine that would give anyone a heart attack. A chart battle with a certain Sophie Ellis-Bextor made sure the song was on everybody's lips during its release week but a #2 peak in the charts was not enough to satisfy Victoria's haters, who deemed her a failure despite the fantastic sales and the general positive reaction to the track.

3) "Watcha Talkin' Bout"

Victoria's first solo album was influenced by a genre that she had always loved: R&B. This track couldn't sound any more slick and well-produced. It is a very honest, straight-to-the-point song and Victoria sings about a (former?) friend who now acts like a bit of a bitch, talks about limos and never seems to make time to see her friends. "It started when the fame and fans kept coming in, and then you changed on us, then you told us you were cool and we were wrong" is one of the lines that made people think this song was about Geri Halliwell, and when Victoria was asked by a reporter, she simply said something along the lines of: "Someone finally got there".

4) "I Wish"

That first solo album had a few gems, and this is one of them. It's musically engaging, with a fresh-sounding summery guitar, a big old chorus and a very confident singer. Victoria sings about trying to hide the attraction she feels for this incredibly sexy, wealthy man. "I wish I could right now, wish that I could show you how I'm feeling you. Boy I try, I can't hide, how badly I want you tonight". After "Not Such An Innocent Girl" and "A Mind Of Its Own", this was meant to be the third single from Victoria's album, but after her second pregnancy was announced, the release was cancelled and Victoria was dropped by Virgin Records shortly after.

5) "25 Minutes"

A dancey pop number that wouldn't sound out of place on a Kylie Minogue album, "25 Minutes" is breezy and catchy and has a somewhat cyclical sound that doesn't bore nor annoy the ears. Victoria is frustrated because "time is never on her side" and she is missing her man. She gets in her car and goes to find him, and as she counts down the minutes she sings about being lost in the way and keeping the radio down low while trying to contact him on the phone. The song finishes with Victoria singing "One more minute to goooouh" and one would hope she finally got there and managed to get some D.

6) "Me Without You"

This song kind of reminds me of Britney Spears's "Breathe On Me", Victoria sounds spaced out as she sings about being under somebody's influence, and it definitely sounds like this person is her drug. She is completely addicted and can't imagine herself without them. Sexy vocals, sexy production, sexy atmosphere.

7) "Flow"

The trumpet (or is it a saxophone?) intro is just great. This is one of Victoria's grooviest songs, it's fun, catchy, ridiculously flirty, and lyrically hideous. Victoria was married and had two children by the time she recorded this song, yet she sang about wanting "a little dirty with a family man". Although, to be fair, she could have been referring to her husband, David Beckham.

8) "Hustler"

"Are you single? Happy with your wash?", the line that gave Victoria Beckham's fans something to talk about for years. What sort of question is that?! This hustler surely has a random way of approaching a woman. Great, great track. Good production, fun lyrics, sexy vocals. Victoria describes a man's ways to impress a woman, admits he's pretty good but he'll never get her love.

9) "Like That"

This R&B-influenced number sees Victoria trying to help a friend who still lusts after a man despite his questionable ways. He lies, he cheats, he goes out with his mates and generally gives no f**ks about the girl. It's Victoria injecting her friend with some much-needed Girl Power.

10) "I'd Give It All Away"

This is a rough demo, and you can tell, but it's fine just the way it is. It's raw, it's genuine, and it's believable. It's Victoria's declaration of love to David: "I'd give it all away, I'd sacrifice everything". She is still completely in love with her man and is totally convinced she should be nowhere but with him.

Happy birthday, Victoria!

Give the woman some jewellery for her birthday!

Victoria Beckham Snubs Her Former Bandmates Again?

Posh and her invisible phone

Victoria Beckham is turning 40 in just three days, and while a few years ago she was all about seeking attention, she now prefers to sneak out of back doors and attend private parties.

Instead of an extravagant OTT bash, the former Spice Girl has apparently opted for an intimate dinner with family and friends. The other Spice Girls will be there, surely? Hmm, Victoria doesn't think so.

According to The Mirror, the popstar-turned-designer, who was rumoured to be throwing two massive parties, one in Los Angeles and one in London, has opted for a quieter affair with just a few of her closest friends and her immediate family.

Mel B, Emma, Geri and Melanie C, her former Spice Girls bandmates, probably won't be invited.

Mel B and Victoria have had their ups and downs over the years and the pair couldn't seem any more distant, while Posh hasn't seen much of Geri since the group took the Olympics by storm.

Emma is the one Spice Girl Victoria has felt close to in recent years, and she made it very clear when she intentionally only included her in a tweet and a photograph right after the Spice Girls musical launch in June, 2012.

"Loved seeing @emmabunton and all the Spice Girls this week! X VB ‪#VivaForever"

Melanie C recently spoke of David Beckham's wife's birthday and joked that she would have a drink-off with Mel B at the party. Victoria didn't really like the joke, if this story is to be believed.

Well, it looks like the Melanies will have to have fun elsewhere, because while Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tara, Eva Longoria and Simon Fuller are all attending, the Spice Girls are not.

"Girl Power", "Friendship Never Ends" and all that...

Dolce & Gabbana Diss Victoria Beckham

VB and D&G were clearly unaware of the paparazzi
Remember when Victoria Beckham was a popstar and she would probably only flirt with the fashion World to get free clothes and a reputation?

Well, back then she was best friends with Dolce & Gabbana. Victoria attended their shows, the trio would attend events together and they would even hold hands, like real BFFs do.

MET Gala, 2003
In 2009, while David Beckham was playing in Milan, Victoria spent her time hanging out with the fashion duo and paraded around the Italian city doing what certain celebrities do best: self-promotion.

Since then Victoria has turned into a fashion designer herself, and she has received critical acclaim over her creations, which have been worn by the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Cameron Diaz and Beyoncé Knowles.

But what do Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana think of her career in the fashion industry?

Speaking to reporters at the Glamour Of Italian Fashion 1945-2014 event at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Gabbana said:

"She's a friend. She make a good job but... for us, she don't make the same way like a fashion designer. She become after many, many, many different things. She's a designer but... She's a fashion designer but it's another... it's different. John Galliano is a designer... Alexander McQueen."

Dolce went on to compare Victoria Beckham to Zara and H&M, setting them apart from Italian and British fashion, which are "completely different".

Girl power! Our Favourite Girlbands

Do you love pop music? If the answer is "yes" then there is a big chance you love at least one girl group, or one of their songs. We don't love just one girl group but a few. The music, in most cases, tends to be good (nope, The Saturdays don't count) and fun ("Fun? What's 'fun'?", asked The Honeyz) and there are always high doses of drama involved (Miss Nicole Schwarzenegger, Melody Thornton has a bone or 10 to pick with you) , so what is there not to love?!

Creating our very own Top5 girl groups wasn't very easy, we only knew which one would be #1:

1) Spice Girls - No surprises there! From the moment they exploded onto the scene with "Wannabe", these 5 mad girls made the most of their short-lived, but incredibly intense, reign! They were absolutely everywhere, everyone had an opinion on them and, even after all these years, they are constantly brought up. Why? Because, love them or hate them, their impact was and still is undeniable. They made it possible for many other girl groups to be noticed and to be successful and kick-started the popmania that took over the World from 1996 to 2001. They released extremely good and catchy singles like "Say You'll Be There", "Spice Up Your Life" and, of course, "Wannabe". But their ballads were just as good, we'd even say far superior. Songs like "2 Become 1" and "Viva Forever" are much better than many songs released by so-called 'respected' artists. Are we being biased? Maybe, but we think we are speaking the truth. When Geri (Ginger Spice) suddenly left the band in May 1998, everyone thought they were over. Was that the case? No. They kept going, completed their World tour, released two more singles that ended up topping the UK Singles Chart (we're talking about 'Goodbye' and the double A-side 'Holler/Let Love Lead The Way'), did a little Christmas tour in the UK in December 1999 and released their final studio album one year later. What happened after that? They simply disappeared without announcing a split. Fast forward to 2007 and the 5 girls (yes, Geri had to make a comeback to the group sooner or later) released a Greatest Hits album and decided to go on what went on to become an extremely successful World tour. Sadly, once the tour was over, we didn't see the five of them performing together again until 2012, at the Olympics Closing Ceremony in London. And what a great last performance they gave us!

Our Top3 Spice Girls singles:
  1. Viva Forever
  2. Holler
  3. Say You'll Be There
2) All Saints - We did say the Spice Girls opened up the door for other girl groups, didn't we? Well, All Saints became extremely successful one year after the Spice Girls became the biggest music act on the Planet. The comparisons always existed despite the fact that their image, music, personalities and general appeal were anything but similar. Their sound was more funk, r&b and soul and their dance routines weren't half as poppy (or as good) as those the Spice Girls used to execute with so much joy. Their four members were known for being pretty feisty, in fact, by the time their second album was released, the girls had divided themselves into two groups: Melanie Blatt and Shaznay Lewis on one side, and the Appleton sisters, Nicole and Natalie, on the other. As it was to be expected, not getting along broke the group up. They disbanded in 2001 but came back in 2006 with a new record. The first single did particularly well in the UK, but the album failed to make an impact. What happened then? It was the end of All Saints all over again. But, the girls seem to be back! They will open for the Backstreet Boys during their UK and Ireland tour next year and they seem to be planning something more for 2014.

Our Top3 All Saints singles:
  1. Black Coffee
  2. Never Ever
  3. Bootie Call
3) TLC - T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli became successful in the US in the early 90s, but it wasn't until they released 'Waterfalls' from their second album that the World really took notice. 'CrazySexyCool' ended up selling over 20 million copies Worldwide (the only other girl group to have sold more copies of an album are the Spice Girls, of course) and, when they released their third studio album in 1999, success was waiting around the corner for them once more. 'No Scrubs' and 'Unpretty' became two of their biggest singles and it felt like everyone was ready for more from the girls. But, sadly, disaster struck and Lisa Left Eye Lopes, the most vocal member of TLC, died in a car accident in 2002 before the girls could complete their fourth album. The two remaining members decided to go ahead and release it, but it never achieved the same amount of success as their previous records. Nowadays they are still active and there are constant rumours about plans for a new tour and album doing the rounds, but we will have to wait and see...

Our Top3 TLC singles:
  1. Unpretty
  2. Creep
  3. No Scrubs
4) Destiny's Child - Known by many as Beyoncé And Her Back-up Singers, they were one of the most successful R&B girl groups ever. Having enjoyed a string of hit singles with 'Bills Bills Bills', 'Say My Name' and 'Jumpin' Jumpin'', they had their first major Worldwide hit with 'Independent Women' and, since then, their career went from strenght to strenght. But, like in most other girl groups, drama was always present in Destiny's Child. They started off being 4 girls, 2 of them left and they were replaced by 2 other girls, but one of those 2 left shortly after. So yeah, they ended up being a 7-piece. No, sorry, they ended up being a 5-piece. Ok, sorry about that, they ended up being a 3-piece. We were never good at maths. Anyway! After releasing their final studio album, 'Destiny Fulfilled', they embarked on a huge World tour, which also marked the end of the group. The girls announced the split during a concert in Barcelona, Spain, in June 2005. They have done little things together from time to time since then but, unlike many other girl bands, they haven't reunited properly yet. Here's hoping they will at some point!

Our Top3 Destiny's Child singles:
  1. Say My Name
  2. Jumpin' Jumpin'
  3. Bills Bills Bills
5) Sugababes - Yet another girl group with constant line-up changes! Mutya, Keisha and Siohban (who got back together last year to start a new group, MKS) were the original members. Heidi replaced Siohban, Amelle replaced Mutya and Jade replaced Keisha, which means the current line-up (are they even still together?) doesn't include any of the original members. They were the most successful girl group of the 2000s in the UK and have released 7 studio albums and 31 singles. Their initial sound was somewhat edgy for a mainstream pop group, very soul and R&B, but their music got poppier by the time they released their 3rd album. We must admit it's thanks to the singles they released from their first 3 records that we decided to include them in the list instead of Girls Aloud.

Our Top3 Sugababes singles:
  1. Run For Cover
  2. Stronger
  3. Freak Like Me

Pubblicarono canzoni ottime ed estremamente orrechiabili, come "Spice Up Your Life", "Say You'll Be There" e, ovviamente, "Wannabe". Cosa successe in seguito? Nulla.

  1. Viva Forever
  2. Holler
  3. Say You'll Be There

I nostri 3 singoli preferiti delle All Saints:
  1. Black Coffee
  2. Never Ever
  3. Bootie Call

  1. Unpretty
  2. Creep
  3. No Scrubs
No, 5. No, scusateci, 3. La matematica non è il nostro forte. Comunque!

  1. Say My Name
  2. Jumpin' Jumpin'
  3. Bills Bills Bills

  1. Run For Cover
  2. Stronger
  3. Freak Like Me

1) Spice Girls - ¡Menuda sorpresa, ¿eh?! Sacaron sencillos buenísimos y muy pegadizos como 'Say You'll Be There', 'Spice Up Your Life' y, por supuesto, 'Wannabe'.

  1. Viva Forever
  2. Holler
  3. Say You'll Be There

  1. Black Coffee
  2. Never Ever
  3. Bootie Call

  1. Unpretty
  2. Creep
  3. No Scrubs
No, perdón, terminaron siendo cinco.

  1. Say My Name
  2. Jumpin' Jumpin'
  3. Bills Bills Bills

  1. Run For Cover
  2. Stronger
  3. Freak Like Me

Viva Forever - One Year On

London Madness (December 2012)
When, in 2009, the Spice Girls announced their latest venture, we weren't too impressed. "A musical?", we thought, "Who's gonna be interested in that? They only have 3 albums!". We did have a point. The Spice Girls were very much a thing of their time, and while their impact was gigantic, their music didn't exactly keep on selling through the years. After the first wave of nostalgic fans, the musical was destined to die.

We weren't wrong. It opened in November 2012 and by June 2013 it was gone. Apparently, Victoria Beckham didn't want to be a part of this project, which would explain her attitude during the promo appearances.

It's easy to mention all the negative aspects of something when it comes to the Spice Girls; these women have been providing massive doses of drama ever since they released their debut single, 'Wannabe', way back in 1996 (that is 17 years ago, by the way).

But, for us, this musical ended up representing another chance to escape to London and do our best to see the Spice Girls. Getting tickets to the premiere was incredibly hard, as they sold out almost immediately. A lovely friend of ours bought hers, but then realised she couldn't make it to London on time, and was looking for someone to sell them to. We raised our virtual hands and got hold of them faster than you could say "I LOVE YOU EMMA!".

It was a lovely few days. It was in December, it was all Christmassy and freezing cold and it seemed like we were living in Spiceworld again. Fans were flocking to the city, checking in their hotels, meeting up outside the Piccadilly Theatre, and as the crowd grew bigger, so did the feeling of excitement!

Police were everywhere and they were being a right pain: we couldn't stand anywhere, we were constantly being told things like "This space is for the paps", "This is for the cars"... we ended up behind some barriers, surrounded by two drunk people: a man who looked about 40 and a girl who was a huge Mel B fan. They were so stressful. The man was bearable, he was joined by some friends and left us alone, but that girl. THAT GIRL. We talked to her for what felt like hours. We held her Jack Daniels bottle, trying to avoid her terrible breath, and rolling our eyes at all the senseless crap she was spouting. We also met a lovely French guy, Guillaume. We still keep in touch with him.

A policewoman told us Victoria Beckham would not make her way to the theatre with the other girls, which we found disappointing, but not surprising. She has been distancing herself for years, she probably thinks Anna Wintour wouldn't like her enough if she associated herself with her ex-collegues.

About one hour later, the first cars started to arrive. The girls' families were first, it was a little surreal to see their husbands, but we didn't really care. But when a London cab arrived, we knew the time had come. Emma, Geri, Mel B and Melanie C stepped out, looking absolutely fabulous, and the crowd went wild! These women still hold such power over their fans, it's quite fascinating to see. As for us, we couldn't see anything! We were hating it, we were in the worst spot ever. The girls posed for the fans and the paparazzi, signed some autographs, then made their way to the red carpet.

That is when we realised we had a chance to be much closer to them. We had tickets. We showed them to some guard, literally RAN to the red carpet and stood just a couple of metres behind the girls. It was such a strange feeling! We were facing the paparazzi and the fans, the flashes were coming our way but, strangely, they didn't blind us. The girls were working the red carpet and we ended up in countless news reports around the world, as we later discovered thanks to an Australian friend who saw us on TV (click for proof!)! We screamed Emma's name, blew her a kiss, she saw us and blew us a kiss. We died a little inside. We stayed on that red carpet, just staring at them, for about 5 minutes, until someone ushered us into the theatre. What a crazy moment we had just lived!

We made our way upstairs, met a lot of people, fellow Spice fans we had been talking to online for years. The musical started, and it was... ok. Honestly, we wouldn't say it was awful, because it wasn't. It had its moments, it was funny and entertaining and the music was great. It just didn't really go anywhere, and the whole talent show plot didn't really do it for us.

The end was a fantastic moment for all of us: the 5 Spice Girls got up on stage, the place exploded, the cheers were so loud. People from all over the world, men in their 20s and 30s, mothers, everyone gave them a standing ovation. They all said a few words, thanked various people, had a group hug and danced a little. Well, Posh didn't dance, obviously. (VIDEO)

We thought it was over once the courtain had fallen, but it wasn't! Everyone left the room, it was literally just us two left. We don't know why we waited so long, but we're glad we did! On the way out, we realised the streets were shut, the barriers had been repositioned, and we couldn't go anywhere, all we could do was wait right outside the theatre's main door. We were there with Fabio and Flavia, two great Italian fans, we had such a laugh together! We didn't know what was going on, but we quickly found out: the Spice Girls and the Beckhams were about to leave the building! We got our cameras ready and filmed everything! First it was the Beckhams (VIDEO). David is as perfect-looking in real life as he appears to be in those H&M adverts (We also met him this year, he IS perfect). We didn't pay a lot of attention to Victoria, she quickly entered her car, we're not even sure she was walking, she was so fast.

Then it was the Spice Girls. Geri, Mel B, Emma and then Melanie C (VIDEO). They were all at arm's lenght. There was no way we weren't going to get Emma's attention again (She's our favourite, we think we've made that pretty obvious), so we screamed her name until she turned around and blew us another kiss. The day couldn't have been any better.

They left and we all stayed there for a bit, in disbelief, and feeling a little lost. It had been an adrenaline-packed evening, it was freezing cold and we had been standing around all day.

We talked to our friends, including Alen and Sascha, and then met up with Sam, one of the sweetest guys we've ever met, outside the M&Ms store in Leicester Square, and just went on and on about how perfect and exciting everything had been.

This kind of event really does bring people together, it's what music should be all about.

Viva Forever - Un Anno Dopo
